Earlier this year, during the SIHH 2019, Jaeger-LeCoultre delivered a triple round of its famous Reverso. A Reverso Tribute Small Seconds with a magnificent Burgundy dial and two versions of the Reverso Tribute Duoface join the ageless Reverso family. Like their 1931 progenitor, every one of the three indications of the Reverso come with manual-winding developments yet parade Casa Fagliano leather ties. Let’s have a more critical glance at these three (wonderful) increases to the collection.
A utilitarian arrangement harbors an icon
The Reverso was LeCoultre’s keen reaction to a solicitation from British provincial armed force officers positioned in India. As sharp polo players, they were continually crushing the glass on their watches and imperiling the component of their wristwatches during the severe matches. In 1931, LeCoultre licensed its reversible watch (it wasn’t until 1937 that Jaeger converged to become Jaeger-LeCoultre). A victory of Art Deco limitation and smooth mathematical excitement, the Reverso was dispatched the exact year as the Empire State Building, marking the introduction of two 20th-century plan show-stoppers that actually enrapture today.
Revisited on many occasions over its long life expectancy, the Reverso has showed up in numerous pretenses, right from complicated pieces like the Gyrotourbillon and Minute Repeater, to creative fortunes like the models with smaller than normal hand-painted interpretations of celebrated works of art by Rembrandt , Van Gogh or Mondrian .
Reverso Tribute Small Seconds
The fuse of a small seconds sub-dial happened from the get-go in the Reverso’s life, in 1934. The 2019 interpretation is an eye-getting model with a flawless rich burgundy red dial and a coordinating Casa Fagliano lash. As a Tribute model, the styling is emphatically Deco with a thin smoothed out profile of 8.5mm and the trademark gadroons at either end of the case. The tempered steel case estimates 45.6mm long and 27.4mm wide, huge enough for a man’s wrist however thin enough for a dress watch.
The differentiation of the cleaned steel case and the luxurious sunray-brushed red dial is strikingly exquisite. It gives a unique foundation to the enormous hand-applied and facetted hour markers, dauphine-style hands and the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. Turning around the case uncovers the shut caseback, an open greeting to customize it with an engraving.
The leather tie is made by the Argentine bootmakers – see our article about Casa Fagliano here – eminent worldwide for their strong carefully assembled leather boots intended for polo players and pony riders. Marginally thicker and more inflexible than a regular leather lash, the tie reaffirms the common polo legacy of the two brands. Inside the steel case is JLC type 822/2, a hand-wound development beating at 21,600vph, with a force hold of 42 hours.
Quick facts: 45.6mm x 27.4mm x 8.5mm – hardened steel case – 30m water-opposition – burgundy red dial – applied hour markers – manual-winding type JLC 822/2 – 42h force hold – hours, minutes, small seconds – Casa Fagliano leather lash – shop select – ref. Q397846J – EUR 6,600 (excl. VAT)
Reverso Tribute Duoface & Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited
The double dealing Duoface was presented in 1994 and, as its name suggests, supplanted the clear caseback with an extra dial changing over into an ideal GMT or second time-region watch. The virtuoso of this Duoface is the way that the two dials are fueled by a similar manual-winding development – JLC type 854A/2. The primary dial is a beautiful sunray-brushed blue with applied hour markers and the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock.
The turn around side is a brilliant tone and adorned with Clous de Paris guilloché and two meeting counters, the bigger one for the hours and minutes, and the smaller small one for the 24-hour day/night indicator.
Both Duoface models share similar estimations (47mm length x 28.3mm width x 10.3mm thick) a similar blue dial and coordinating blue Casa Fagliano leather lashes. The distinction lies for the situation material: the Reverso Tribute Duoface comes in a tempered steel case while the Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited comes in a lavish 18k pink gold case and is a restricted version of 100 pieces.
