The Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève (GPHG 2019) is preparing for its 19th release and is presently tolerating passages from all hopeful watch applicants. With new jury individuals and new classes, the GPHG welcomes passages until June 21st, 2019. Often compared to the Oscars of the watchmaking business – see our 2018 report here – the GPHG happens in November in a sparkling occasion organized in the Théâtre du Léman, Geneva. The primary release occurred in 2001 and, after a seemingly endless amount of time after year, the occasion has acquired foothold as the most esteemed honor service in the watch business. The GPHG 2019 version acquaints two new classifications with the prize rundown. The Audacity Prize, for instance, commends crafted by the most non-traditionalist and offbeat watchmakers, while the Horological Revelation prize focuses a light on youthful brands/youthful abilities that have under ten years of existence.
New jury members
The board of jury individuals is composed of delegates from the watch business (writers, gatherers, specialists, and so forth) and about a fourth of its individuals are restored every year. A fascinating proviso with regards to the Rules Section of the GPHG states that the “brand that successes the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix is naturally ineligible for the competition the next year, and its author or CEO is welcome to sit on the jury for one year”. This clarifies why Pascal Raffy of Bovet is a member of the jury this year. New faces incorporate Jasem Al Zeraei (a Kuwaiti influencer and authority), Aldis Hodge (entertainer, watch planner/USA), Pierre Salanitro (CEO of Salanitro/Switzerland), Jiaxian Su (gatherer and originator of SJXwatches.com/Singapore) and Jessica Yu (organizer of Hantang Culture/China).
The GPHG 2019 welcomes entries from all watch brands, be they Swiss or worldwide. Passages should be put together by 21st June and the rundown of pre-chosen watches by the jury will be reported on second September. As in earlier years, the pre-chosen watches will be taken on visit to various objections around the globe.
